Statewide Kratom Laws In MS (Effective July 1, 2025)
As of July 1, 2025, Mississippi enacted new kratom regulations under House Bill 1077 and House Bill 1896. These laws apply statewide and include:
- Age restriction: You must be 21 or older to purchase, receive, or possess kratom in a public place.
- Product bans: Synthetic or semi-synthetic kratom products are prohibited. Products containing more than 1% 7-hydroxymitragynine of total alkaloids are banned. Kratom products designed to appeal to minors (such as candy shapes or cartoon-style packaging) are prohibited.
- Sales & labeling rules: Retailers must be licensed by the Mississippi Department of Revenue and keep kratom behind the counter. Products must include clear labeling with manufacturer information, a full ingredient list, and consumer warnings advising against use by minors and pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
Where Kratom Is Legal in Mississippi
In many parts of the state, kratom remains legal and accessible. Cities such as Biloxi, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Meridian, Southaven, Tupelo, Laurel, and Pearl, along with numerous other municipalities, currently allow kratom under state law and local regulations.
Where Kratom Is Illegal in Mississippi
Despite statewide legality, some cities and counties have enacted local bans. In certain municipalities—including Oxford, Corinth, Columbus, Booneville, New Albany, Ripley, Pontotoc, Iuka, Senatobia, and Tishomingo City—kratom is prohibited under local ordinances.
Additionally, countywide bans remain in effect in Alcorn, Calhoun, Itawamba, Lowndes, Monroe, Noxubee, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union Counties, where kratom is treated as a banned substance regardless of city policy.
